The Secret Garden - Past & Present

Introduction

These pages are intended to guide you through the development of the Secret Garden.

Secluded in one corner of the main site is an area currently known as The Courtyard.  It was built sometime after we moved to this site in 2000.

Although a nice area to sit and well planted round the perimeter it was felt that this area could do with improvement.

The final plans for the new Secret Garden. Click for larger image.

We started out in late 2005/early 2006 making plans and coming up with ideas of how this area could be developed.

Plans and artists impressions were made showing how the area could look.

Left: The final design.

Although working round the basic layout of the existing courtyard area it was decided to completely redesign the whole area.

This includes new beds round the interior and exterior walls, enlarging the existing perimeter beds and creating an improved sales area.

Right: As Existing.

We will also be adding new features such as a central water fountain, a formal pond with cascade, two chamomile seats, a pergola and new seating.

We're currently looking into sources to buy the bricks we need to built the perimeter beds, seating, sale areas and at least one of the arches.

All the new beds, seating and pond areas have now been accurately marked out on the tarmac.

It is also being done in collaboration with Lancaster & Morecambe College as their brickwork department will be building the central water feature.
