The Story So Far

In December 2007 outline planning application was submitted for the entire site.

Early in 2008 a full planning application was submitted for Phase 1 of the site; this included the Seaside Square, a new setting for the Midland and the first two apartment blocks.

So far neither application has been viewed by the planning committee.  Urban Splash were thought to be submitting a new application this Spring; although so far nothing has been submitted.

Background

As announced in the local press this area of land was subjected to a major design competition by Urban Splash in 2005.  There were just over a 100 entries and this was narrowed down to 6 finalists in December - with the plans on view to the public in January 2006 at the Platform Arts Centre.

The finalists were:

Judging of the six finalists took place after and a decision was announced at the end of February.
